About Head Start on Engineering

Head Start on Engineering (HSE) is an ongoing research-practice collaboration focused on both understanding and supporting engineering-related interest development in early childhood for low-income families. The project is motivated by three critical needs:

  1. Fostering engagement with and Interest in engineering for early learners in order to support healthy development and lifelong learning

  2. Providing access to quality engineering education experiences for low-income families in order to address historical inequities and prepare families for a science- and technology-rich world

  3. Building knowledge for educators and researchers about engineering engagement and interest development in early childhood and how it can be effectively supported

The HSE initiative includes both program development and implementation, as well as research with families.
